Exclusive ADC track on The Revival Tour's "2012 Collections" Compilation, out now on Ten Four Records

Hey folks!  The good people over at The Revival Tour, which is curated by friend and brother in song Chuck Ragan, have put out a brand new compilation called “2012 Collections,” and I’m on it!  This sweet acoustic tour has been happening for six years and has featured some amazing songwriters and musicians.  I had the pleasure of joining these guys at the Bowery Ballroom last March and will never forget the sense of community and all out fun we had that night.

The compilation features some pretty amazing people on it, including Cory Branan, Jenny Owen Youngs, Dave Hause, Dan Andriano, Austin Lucas, the Parkington Sisters, and more…and of course, Mr. Chuck Ragan himself.

My contribution is a song called “Ordinary Man,” which has never been released and features the lovely Margaret Glaspy on vocals with me.

Click the link above to pre-order your copy of “Collections 2012” which comes with an instant digital download!  Support this great organization.

New Single - "My Own Bed" (Extended Version) - Click to listen/download

adacostamusic:

Hey, FB world - At the end of the long tour I did this summer, the one that ended up stressing out my hands too much and causing me to take a break from playing…Well, I recorded this song I had just written. It’s about that summer. Any summer. And having so many things you want to say to someone and not being able to say them. I recorded it with my good friends The Sentimentals in Copenhagen, Denmark…This is the extended version of the song…I want you to have it. So go to my Bandcamp page (link below) and download it for free or pay what you want. All $$$$ will go towards hand therapy, acupuncture, and just generally getting better. Or just get it for free. Whatever. Enjoy it and be well.

Yours,
Anthony

Pressing the Pause Button - A Quick Announcement

Hey friends,

Anthony da Costa here.  I hope you’ve been well so far in 2013.  I’m just coming out of a month-long winter break between semesters of my last year of college…I had a lot of time to rest, reflect, and just generally hang with friends and loved ones.  I’m looking forward to this last semester and graduating from school.

This past fall, after a long and intense summer of touring and playing in three countries, I was diagnosed with tendonitis, which is an acute inflammation of the tendons, usually due to overuse and repetitive stress.  Unfortunately, I have it in both of my hands, and this has made playing the guitar more and more difficult and sometimes painful.

Not to be completely discouraged, I decided that I would appear at all of my fall/early winter shows (from October through December) as just the singer, with an additional accompanist playing guitar. While I enjoyed these shows and it was an interesting challenge to perform without playing, I have realized that I am much more artistically and personally fulfilled when I am able to play myself.  At the end of December, I started to play again and try and readjust my technique…A month later, I am still in pain after playing, sometimes for days.

All of this has led me to an incredibly difficult but seemingly necessary decision, which is that after my February 1st show at the Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn, I will be taking a hiatus from playing music live.  I will also unfortunately have to halt the recording and production for my “Onwards from November” monthly subscription releases.  For those of you who have signed up for the deluxe version of the subscription series, you will be refunded your money.  I am hoping to rekindle this series when I am well again.

This is by far not the end for me…In fact, I am doing my best to think in the long term and make sure that I will be able to play for years to come.  This is more like pressing the “pause button”…I ask that you send me your positive vibes, and I hope to return better than ever…I have been writing a ton of new songs and have been brewing up a bunch of new and exciting musical projects in my head which I hope to bring to life very soon.

Until that time, I will not be playing any shows as Anthony da Costa, and will instead heal, finish school, write however I can, and maybe start a blog.  I dunno.  I’ll figure it out.  I appreciate your support and have always considered myself fortunate to have people who listen to my music and come to my shows.

Thank you, and please take care of yourselves.
Sincerely,
Anthony da Costa
PS Here are my last 3 shows before my break.  If you live in these areas, I hope to see you there!

Elliott, Rose, da Costa EP on iTunes/Upcoming Shows..

Hey there everybody!  Happy New Year.

I hope you’ve all had a great January thus far.  My winter break from college is about to come to an end…I’ve spent a lot of time resting, a little time jamming and some more time loving.  You know.  Also I’ve hung out with family and friends.  To quote my friend and occasional bassist Andrew Pressman, “it’s fine.”  Also, “well, you look great!”

The Elliott, Rose, da Costa debut EP “CA-TX-NY Vol. 1” is now available on iTunes…just follow this link here.  You can also buy the album for a dollar less on the Family Records website by clicking here.  The latter route requires a PayPal account…Do what you can!  We’re proud of this one…Definitely way different than anything any of us have put out.  Enjoy!

I have a couple of New York shows coming up that I’m excited about…

On January 26th (this Saturday), I’ll be returning to my beloved Postcrypt Coffeehouse to play a show with the great Margaret Glaspy, as well as Aaron Lee Tasjan.  Both are fantastic songwriters and you should definitely come if you’re in the area.  8:30pm start, 8pm doors, totally FREE and unplugged.  Dig in.

On February 1st, I’ll be playing a set at the very cool Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn as part of a night hosted by my good friends Paper Swan.  Also on the bill:  Melaena Cadiz, Free Advice, Laura Dunn, and Erin Durant!  It’s going to be real fun.  Jalopy is sweet.  You should come.

More soon, much love,

Anthony

*NEW* Elliott, Rose, da Costa Debut EP Available for FREE (Limited Time Only)!!!

image

Hey everybody!  Here’s a holiday surprise - the new Elliott, Rose, da Costa EP “CA-TX-NY Vol. 1” is now available for FREE via Family Records.  This is a project of mine that I share with two of my best friends in the world and most favorite songwriters, John Elliott and Raina Rose (and Raina’s husband Andrew Pressman plays awesome bass with us!).  We’ve been singing/playing/touring informally and formally with one another for about 5 years and this is the first time we’ve ever recorded as a group.

We made the album in Los Angeles earlier this year with the great Tony Berg at the production helm.  The album features guest appearances by Blake Mills as well as Griffin Goldsmith (of Dawes).  We’re proud of the way it came out…Definitely different compared to anything we’ve ever done individually!

You can now download the EP FOR FREE until January 7th.  On January 8th, it will be available for money on iTunes and other digital music platforms…Consider it a holiday gift!

Click the album above or right HERE to go to the download page.

I hope you download, enjoy, and share this music.

And if you live in NYC…Don’t forget to get your tickets to “WE STILL EXIST: A Post-Apocalyptic New Year’s Eve” at the Living Room w/myself, Tony Scherr Trio, and Tall Tall Trees!

Your friend,

Anthony

Hey folks!  Here’s a live acoustic video for my new single “Across the Country”, featuring my friend Aaron Lee Tasjan on guitar.  It was shot and edited by Jason Zucker of Paper Swan, a sweet music/arts collective based in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Feel free to share the video on Facebook and Twitter, and go on over to the subscription page to sign up for the “Onwards from November” series!  There you can download this song and others we’ll be releasing this year!

And don’t forget to come see me at Brooklyn First Acoustics this SATURDAY at 8pm w/Caitlin Canty and Anna Dagmar.  Tickets still available!

Be well,

Anthony

Friends! I am excited to share a new song called “Across the Country”.

When you watch the video above, you’ll notice the theme of sending postcards to someone far away. It could be a lover, a friend, your grandma, really anyone you miss! We thought it’d be in the spirit of the song to be able to share the song with a friend by way of a beautiful post card designed by Kristine Thune (see below).

For $4.99 you will receive an instant MP3 download of the song (plus b-side), and I will hand-write a postcard to a person of your choice that includes a download for them as well. People love mail! For more info click here:

Buy: “Across The Country” Postcard + Download

More exciting stuff coming later, including a way to subscribe to a year’s worth of my music starting with the song above. (If you’re not interested in the postcard, but you want the MP3 (for free), there will be an option for that in the subscription I will posting about later today.)

Let me know what you guys think of the song and please share with your friends. - Anthony
